Q
WHAT IS EVIDENCE-BASED DOULA SUPPORT?
Evidence-based doula support uses research and fact-based information to educate families on pregnancy, labor and delivery, and immediate postpartum. Using the information learned, families can make informed decisions about one of the most important days of their lives.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DOULA AND A MIDWIFE?
A doula is a non-medical support person whose main focus is to empower you through your birth journey. They may have similar approaches to a midwife which is why they usually work close together. A midwife is a board-certified medical professional. Their main focus is to care for your and your baby's safety.
WILL A BIRTH DOULA BE ABLE TO SUPPORT MY BIRTH STORY?
Yes, a birth doula is trained to support all births and families. This includes natural home/hospital, cesarean, VBAC, and all of those in between. Doulas are not only for mothers and families who want to have a natural home birth. They are for all mothers and families who want to feel heard/seen at a time when they are most vulnerable, as they bring new life, to Earthside.
HOW WILL A DOULA BE HELPFUL TO MY PARTNER?
When working with a doula they not only help the mother prepare for D-day, but she’ll also help the mother’s partner or support person prepare for the delivery as well. One of the benefits of your doula also working with your partner is that your partner knows you better than others on your birth team. This can help amplify your support because they know your preferences and concerns, while also learning techniques to help physically support you during labor.
